LONDON (AFP) – Hope Powell has been dismissed as head coach of the England women's football team, the Football Association announced on Tuesday.
Powell had been in the job for 15 years, having taken up the role in 1998, and she guided England to a runners-up spot at the 2009 European Championship.
However, England went out in the first round of this year's competition and the FA said it was time "for a fresh outlook".
