Lorena Bobbitt, who famously cut off her husband’s penis more than 20 years ago as he slept, revealed that she has not spoken to her ex since then.
The 46-year-old revisited the gruesome 1993 case on the “Steve Harvey” show on Monday. She said she has ignored her now ex-husband John Bobbitt’s attempts to get in touch with her.
"He tried. But I always deleted his number," she said. "I mean, you know, I have my life. I have a new life now and I just want to focus on what is positive and I surrounded myself with positive people."
Bobbit, who was born in Ecuador as Lorena Gallo, said her stop on the show was to show a light to domestic abuse.
She detailed the harrowing night, saying that her now ex had come home drunk and raped her the night before. This, she said, after years of alleged domestic abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of Bobbit.
"My body couldn't take it. My mind couldn't take it. I was very scared, so obviously I snapped," the woman said. "I cut off his penis because he abused me that much. That's what happens when a man pushes a woman so far and so low," she added.
His penis was subsequently surgically reattached.
She was found not guilty of assault and the couple divorced in 1995.
Lorena Gallo has since remarried to a man, she said, who “never brings up” the incident. She said she is fells very blessed to have him and their 8-year-old daughter.
She added that she hopes her headline-grabbing story will help other women in her position to find help out of their situation. She has started a foundation to help abused women and children.
"My story actually has humor, but also, we shine the light on domestic violence as well," she said. "Something good has come out of my, you know, negative [experience]."
