PARIS – A French jury has found two robbers guilty of murdering a policewoman after a failed holdup and a high-speed highway chase in 2010. One robber was sentenced to 20 years in prison and the second, convicted in absentia, to 30 years

Another defendant, accused of organizing the attempted attack on an armored cash-transportation van outside Paris, was convicted of conspiracy to commit a crime early Thursday and sentenced to 18 years in prison.

The Paris criminal court gave prison terms from one year to 15 years to five other defendants. Another one was acquitted.

The victim, Aurelie Fouquet, 26, a mother of a 14-month-old boy, was the first female local police officer killed on duty in France.

The jury returned the verdict overnight in a crowded courtroom.
