At least two people were killed and six wounded after a shooting broke out at a party early Sunday near Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., according to reports.
The Rutgers University Police Department confirmed the off-campus incident happened around 1:30 a.m. when an unknown assailant – or assailants – opened fire on Delafield Street.

“Those injured were transported to an area hospital and injuries are reported to be serious,” Kenneth Cop, the Rutgers police chief, said in a statement. “Information as to the description(s) of the perpetrator(s) is limited at this time and the investigation is active and ongoing.”
Two male victims were pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Tap Into New Brunswick reported.
The motive behind the shooting remains unknown. Officials said there is no apparent link between the shooting and Rutgers or its students.
