Two Minnesota teens have been charged with multiple counts of second-degree murder in relation to a school shooting on Tuesday that left one student dead and one other injured.

Alfredo Rosario Solis, 19, and Fernando Valdez-Alvarez, 18, were both charged with three counts of second-degree murder for their alleged involvement in the school shooting at South Education Center in Richfield, Minnesota.

The shooting occurred outside the South Education Center at around 12:07 p.m., according to police chief Jay Henthorne. The school is about 20-minutes outside of Minneapolis.

When officers responded to the scene, two students who were shot were found on the sidewalk, but both suspects left the scene.

After being taken to the hospital, one student died due to injuries sustained from the shooting and the other was in critical condition as of Tuesday.

Police say that a third victim from the shooting did not receive any substantial injury.

South Education Center and other schools in the surrounding area were placed on lockdown until police officers deemed there was not an ongoing threat.

One witness saw five boys walking alongside the school when the incident occurred, noting that she saw five boys near a gold Chevy SUV near the school and then heard three shots followed by the vehicle leaving, and then another two shots, according to charging documents.

A staff member saw four students run up to the two accused teenagers as if they were going to fight, when one of the suspects "pulled a gun out of his pocket and started firing it," charging documents state. The staff member told police that one of the dependents got into the vehicle and continued to shoot at the victims.

One witness told police that the defendants had a "black handgun, similar to a Glock, with an extended magazine."

Police say that Solis was seen exiting a tan SUV at his apartment complex just minutes after the shooting.

While executing a search warrant of Solis' residence, police found a 9mm Glock 45 handgun from a bedroom with an empty magazine, a Nintendo Switch case with two magazines for a 9mm handgun in another bedroom, black straps for a Glock handgun, and 9mm ammunition.
