A 5-year-old Georgia boy with no underlying health conditions died of COVID-19 last week, a report said.

Wyatt Gibson, from the city of Calhoun, lost his life after a short battle with the illness at a hospital across the border in Chattanooga, Tennessee, relatives told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"In a way, I know that you’re still here, but I miss you so damn much!" the child’s heartbroken father, Wes Gibson wrote on Facebook. "I have lost my best friend."

The father and his infant sister have also contracted coronavirus, Wyatt’s godmother, Amanda Summey told the newspaper.

Wyatt’s death comes as COVID-19 cases have again surged across the nation. The spike is being fueled by the more infectious Delta variant and a slowdown in vaccinations.
