American Airlines Group Inc. said Monday that it will begin eight new daily nonstop routes this fall from big hub airports to mostly smaller cities such as Grand Rapids, Michigan.

All the flights will be conducted with smaller regional jets under the American Eagle and US Airways Express brands.

On Sept. 3, US Airways Express will start flights between Grand Rapids and both Charlotte and Philadelphia.

On Oct. 2, US Airways Express will start flights between Evansville, Indiana, and Charlotte; Fort Wayne, Indiana, and both Charlotte and Philadelphia; and Phoenix and Cleveland. The same day, American Eagle will begin flying between Bismarck, North Dakota, and both Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth.

The company, formed by the December merger of American and US Airways, said it was committed to expanding domestic flying to serve customers in smaller markets.
