Weaver wins PC Financial Open playoff

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Weaver birdied all three playoff holes Sunday to win a 5-man playoff at the season-opening PC Financial Open.

Weaver, who was in the final group, birdied the final hole of regulation for a 3-under 69. He was the last of the five to post 12-under-par 276. He was joined there by Adam Svensson (69), Riley Wheeldon (68), Ross Beal (67) and Taylor Pendrith (64).

Beal and Pendrith both made eagle at the par-5 18th to end at minus-12, while Wheeldon and Svensson birdied No. 18, like Weaver, to earn their spots in the playoff.

The five men returned to the 18th for the first two extra holes. Beal missed a birdie chip, while Pendrith and Wheeldon failed to convert their birdie putts. Svensson rolled in a 7-footer for birdie and Weaver matched him from a foot closer.

Weaver and Svensson returned to the 18th again. Weaver reached the green in two and 2-putted for birdie from 50 feet out. Svensson missed the putting surface with his second, but chipped to five feet and drained his birdie try to extend the playoff.

The duo headed to the par-5 first. Weaver's second went over the green and into a sand trap. Svensson's second stopped just short of a bunker. Weaver blasted close to the hole and tapped in for birdie. Svensson's eagle chip rolled five feet by the cup. His birdie chance lipped out to give Weaver his first PGA Tour Canada win.

NOTES: Weaver, who won the 2007 British Amateur title, earned $31,500 for the win ... Wheeldon won the 2013 Syncrude Boreal Open, while Svensson, Pendrith and Beal, who was making his first tour start, all were going for their first tour victory ... The PGA Tour Canada remains in British Columbia next week for the Bayview Place Island Savings Open, where Josh Persons won last year.
