Kingston, RI – Rhode Island football coach Joe Trainer has reworked his coaching staff, including the promotion of Brian Vaganek to defensive coordinator.
Vaganek, who joined the staff last March, will continue to work with the defensive linemen in addition to his new duties. Last season, Rams senior defensive tackle Willie McGinnis earned All-CAA Football second-team honors under Vaganek's tutelage.
Trainer also announced that quarterbacks coach Liam Coen has added the title of passing game coordinator and Doug Borsari was named director of football operations after serving as an offensive line assistant last season.
In addition, URI hired three new coaches, Ryan Mattison (defensive backs), Matt Sutjak (assistant offensive line) and Matt Urban (assistant defensive backs).
Rhode Island finished 3-8 last season, including 2-6 in the CAA. The Rams will kick off the 2012 season on Sept. 8 at Monmouth.
