New York, NY – Philadelphia Union defender Gabriel Farfan was suspended two additional games and fined an undisclosed amount Friday by Major League Soccer.
Farfan received a red card and an automatic one-match suspension for a foul on James Riley in a match with Chivas USA last weekend, and the MLS Disciplinary Committee said his challenge "was reckless and endangered Riley's safety."
The additional fine was levied for the "egregious nature of the challenge itself as well as for failing to leave the field in an orderly manner."
Farfan will start his suspension Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes and also miss matches against Seattle Sounders FC and Red Bull New York in May. He has played four matches this season, including three starts.
