Josef Newgarden flipped the script Monday by posting the fastest lap in the final full practice for the Indianapolis 500.

Less than 24 hours after losing the pole to James Hinchcliffe, the American turned a lap of 227.414 mph. Target Chip Ganassi teammates Tony Kanaan, the 2013 Indy winner, and defending series champion Scott Dixon were second and third at 226.393 and 226.339.

It was a busy day on the 2.5-mile oval with 33 drivers completing 2,886 laps. Most of the afternoon looked and sounded like race day — with cars running single file in packs or side-by-side.

Chevrolet, which struggled to keep up with the Honda-powered cars last week, claimed the top four spots Monday.

Only one practice session, Friday, remains before Sunday's 100th running of the race.
