Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will visit Japan, China and South Korea later this month as part of his first trip to the region, according to Japanese media reports late Friday Washington time.
Kyodo, a Japanese news outlet, said Tillerson will visit that country on March 17-18, though U.S. government officials told Reuters on Friday there was no new travel to announce.
While in China, Tillerson would meet with Foreign Ministry Wang Yi and possibly President Xi Jinping, who Trump hosted at the White House in February. The meeting would allow a follow-up from a statement Tillerson made to China last month, urging them to help prevent North Korea from enhancing its ballistic missile program.
Tillerson is expected to sit down with South Korea's foreign minister Yun Byung Se to discuss threats from North Korea and the murder of strongman Kim Jong Un's brother.
