President Joe Biden advertised a mug for his reelection campaign Thursday by sharing a video appearing to drink a cup of coffee emblazoned with his "Dark Brandon" persona.
President Joe Biden tweeted, "A cup of Joe never tasted better," along with a video of himself appearing to drink a cup of coffee from a mug showing his face with glowing laser eyes. He declared in the video, "I like my coffee dark."
The tweet linked to his official campaign website selling the mug for $22 with the description, "Dark Brandon, dark roast. Tea drinkers welcome. Purchase is a donation to Biden Victory Fund. AMERICAN MADE | UNION PRINTED."
The "Dark Brandon" meme emerged from the left as an edgy and intimidating version of the president that was a parody of the earlier Dark MAGA meme. The meme also seeks to co-opt the "Let's go Brandon" meme that originated among conservatives online after NBC reporter Kelli Stavast claimed a profane anti-Biden chant at sporting events was actually fans chanting "Let’s go, Brandon!"
While many of Biden’s supporters praised the mug and the fact Biden was continuing to lean into the Dark Brandon persona, the president’s detractors criticized the promo.
"Congratulations. In eight seconds flat you turned ‘cup of joe’ from a cute bit of 20th Century slang into the stuff of nightmares," PJMedia's Stephen Green wrote.
"I bet this 5 second promo took at least 100 takes to do," Florida's Voice news CEO Brendon Leslie wrote.
"The ‘great unifier’ is back with a Dark Brandon flex just hours after indicting his main political rival AGAIN," Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, tweeted. "When tyrants speak, BELIEVE THEM."
Podcaster Tim Pool wrote, "[I’m] glad they embrace the ‘biden is evil’ memes."

The account representing the Republican Party shared a chart and wrote, "Coffee is 30% more expensive compared to when Biden took office."
YouTuber Derek Broes tweeted, "More like ‘I like my coffee black, like my heart’."
Off the Wire podcast host Noel Olinde blasted the video as "Max cringe."

Doug Powers from Twitchy made fun of the president's propensity for following directions on notes, "::YOU pick up the mug. YOU pretend to take a sip. YOU put the mug back down. YOU say "I like my coffee dark." YOU then go to Delaware for 10 days. YOU are to answer no questions whatsoever.::"
