What do teens love more than their phones? Turns out, it’s a free meal.

A group of California teens went to Double D Steak restaurant in Fortuna before their high school prom on Saturday.

The 11 Fortuna High School students were seated at the restaurant when shortly after the waiter “came to their table and said someone anonymously was paying for their dinner and to get whatever they wanted,” Kim McKenzie Emmons, mother to one of the girls at the dinner, wrote on Facebook.

However, the free meal came with a catch — the group was to “stay off their phones for the whole dinner.”

Without hesitation, the teens handed their phones over to the waiter.

“The great part about this story is that my daughter said they talked the whole night without distractions and said it was a blast,” Emmons wrote.

The group was fortunate enough to meet their anonymous donor toward the end of their meal.

“The anonymous gentleman came to their table while he was leaving and told them they were a beautiful group and that it brought back memories of his time when he was younger. Thank you to the gentleman that not only paid for their dinner, but taught them you can have a really good time without technology,” Emmons concluded in the Facebook post.

“That is awesome!!!!” another woman cheered.

“WOW! That guy is amazing! And what a wonderful lesson to the girls, to enjoy each other to the fullest! Life passes us by so quickly, especially these years,” another person touched by the moment commented.

Even the restaurant, Double D Steak, responded saying they were pleased to see the event unfold.

“This was so awesome! It was so nice to see them all conversing with each other and not on the phones!” the establishment commented.

Emmons responded to the restaurant asking for the generous man’s contact so she let him know how grateful she was of his kind gesture.
