Nothing says wedding like a bag of goldfish to take home.
A maid of honor shared an alleged event on Reddit’s Bridezilla forum that both ended a friendship and killed nearly 100 fish in the process.
The anonymous woman, who describes herself only as the MOH (maid of honor), shared an outrageous account of the wedding of her “(then) best friend” that allegedly involved using “living creatures as wedding favors.”
WEDDING GUEST SHAMED FOR LENGTHY LIST OF 'RULES' FOR BRIDAL PARTY TO FOLLOW
“You see, ex-friend was an animal lover. On and off again vegetarian/vegan, PETA supporter, etc. She was especially fond of fish. With that in mind, how cute would it be to have a pair of goldfish in a globe as a centerpiece? Real, live goldfish – a pair of them (to represent the couple, see?) – on each and every table, all 40 of them,” the MOH wrote on Reddit.
Though the MOH claims she raised “multiple objections,” the bride was insistent on having the fish at the ceremony.
“M[OH]: ‘What happens to the fish after the ceremony?’
B[ride]: ‘Oh, the guests can take them home! They'd be like wedding favors! Keepsakes!’
M: ‘But not everyone is going to want to take home a new pet from a wedding. People tend to like having a say in what pets they want to take care of.’”
The MOH claims she raised the question of the fish being “stressed out” from the chaos of the wedding, but the bride insisted “it wouldn’t even matter.”
“B: ‘The ones in the tank at Wal-Mart don't seem to mind people walking by them all the time.’
M: ‘Yeah, speaking of the ones in the tank at Wal-Mart... there's always a fair few of them floating at the top. What if you get floaters during the reception? I mean, it's not an appetizing sight for the people eating their dinners. Besides, it wouldn't make for the best representation of your relationship. There's a lot of... not good... symbolism there.’”

Despite the hesitation raised, the bride reportedly decided to go ahead with the fish favors and assigned the MOH to “floater duty” to remove the dead floating fish from the bags and replace them with others that were kept in the back.
The bride allegedly purchased nearly 100 goldfish at 3 cents apiece for the 40 centerpieces. When the wedding was over, though, not one of the guests took home the goldfish, the MOH claimed in the post.
“It couldn't have helped that the bride didn't think to provide containers for them. So, will the bride and groom be adopting these eighty goldfish plus about ten ‘spare’ still in the back swimming around in the giant bag from the pet store? Alas, they can't! They're headed off on their honeymoon,” she wrote.
The woman claims she took home all the leftover fish, noting that most of them died either at the wedding, during transport or by the next day after she transitioned them into a tank she purchased that day.
However, there was one that managed to last for five years.
“I named it Sun. It lingered far longer than my friendship with the bride, and far far longer than her marriage,” the MOH wrote.

The MOH’s rant was met with anger on Reddit.
“Urgh, that's horrible! She's definitely not an animal lover. Animals are not decorations!” one person wrote.
“As a goldfish lover this infuriates me. They only live short amounts of time because of abuse. They're supposed to live 20 ish years and grow to at least 1 to 2 ft long,” another wrote.
“What a monster,” one person succinctly commented.
Though the MOH did not say how long ago the wedding was, she did not seem to be upset over the loss of friendship, calling the bride “kind of a crappy person,” in a comment.
