An Australian couple is catching heat for staging a gender reveal stunt that literally went up in flames.

The couple had planned to learn the sex of their unborn child with the help of a car and a set of tires, which were rigged to throw off colorful smoke during a burnout.

Footage obtained by Australia’s 7 News, however, appears to show the reveal didn’t go according to plan.

WARNING: Footage contains graphic language.

The tires can be seen emanating pink smoke as the car begins burning rubber, but soon the scene turns to chaos after one of the tires catches fire, with onlookers screaming and friends frantically calling for the driver to stop.

No one was reported to be injured in the incident, but a few locals from nearby Meningie, who spoke with 7 News, disapproved of the scene, which is believed to have unfolded over the weekend.

“I think it’s taken a bit too far,” one woman said.

Others, meanwhile, noted that the burning tires could have potentially started a fire, which is exactly what happened in Arizona last year, when a Border Patrol agent rigged an explosive substance with colored powder and ended up igniting the Sawmill Fire, which burned more than 45,000 acres and caused $8 million worth of damage in April 2017.

The local police, too, condemned the incident and warned community members not to copy the stunt.

"Police warn against the dangers of similar stunts," said South Adelaide Police's Bob Gray, in part, in a statement to 7 News.

“It poses a danger to spectators and a real risk of starting a bush fire, which carries severe penalties."
