Nearly two months after a plane carrying a Brazilian soccer team crashed and killed 71 of its 77 passengers, an emotional video featuring one of the survivors taking his first steps since the tragedy has been released.
Brazilian soccer player Helio Neto, 31, is seen walking barefoot in the video without the aid of crutches. Neto sustained a fracture in the fifth lumbar vertebrae and was hospitalized with a lung infection after the Nov. 28 crash. He was released Dec. 22 but has continued working with a physiotherapist, Central European News (CEN) reported.
“I think I will be able to play again soon,” Neto said. “With the help of God, I will be on the field soon with the Chapecoense shirt.”
Neto reportedly said he cannot remember anything about the crash, which happened while the team was traveling to the finals of a regional tournament in Medellin, Colombia.
