When returns to NBC this weekend, the Weekend Update desk is going to look a little bit different. Colin Jost is returning to the desk this year, but Cecily Strong is stepping down and former staff writer Michael Che will be taking her place. The shake up has gotten Team Decider feeling nostalgic for our favorite Weekend Update anchors. So, naturally, since we’re already ranking the top 40 characters in Saturday Night Live history this week, we decided it would make sense to rank our top ten favorite Weekend Update anchors of all time.

There have been, by our estimation 21 official Weekend Update anchors in the history of Saturday Night Live. Over the years, these comics have dmanned the desk solo and in various teams. Rather than rank the anchors by teams or eras, we’re looking at the strengths of these individual Weekend Update anchors.

We felt that these were the most important qualities in a Weekend Update anchor:

Unique Point of View.

Ability To Lampoon The News.

Do They Play Well With Others?

Overall Influence.

A Good Sense of Humor.

So, we went through the history of Weekend Update anchors and ranked all them according to that criteria.

Did your favorite Weekend Update anchor make the list? Would you put someone higher? And most importantly, will Colin Jost or Michael Che ever make the list?
