Some of the most prominent Tejano stars will be showcased at the 31st Annual Tejano Music Awards, set to take place Saturday, September 10 at the San Antonio Event Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The Tejano Awards have been put together by the nonprofit Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA) since the 1980’s. This year they will be hosted by comedian Cleto Rodríguez and TV host Vanessa Macías.

“We are the only outlet for Tejano music,” Felix Mendoza, Media rep for TTMA told Fox News Latino. “It’s another outlet for new, up and coming [Tejano] artists to promote themselves.”

Mendoza, whose been involved with the awards for the past five years, says that one of the main goals of these awards is to create awareness of Tejano music nationwide.

“There are bands coming from states that are not predominantly known for Tejano music,” said Mendoza. “It’s our own genre of music made here in the United States.”

In years past Mendoza says artists such as Jennifer Peña, AB Quintanilla and Pee Wee (Irvin Salinas Mártinez) from the Kumbia Kings have participated in the ceremony. Last year David Archuleta attended the awards as well.
