Ryan Gosling wants you to know that Eva Mendes was totally kidding about being against sweatpants.
The “Drive” star, 34, took to Twitter to defend his partner’s comments that wearing sweatpants leads to divorce.
“Obviously sweatpants thing was a joke,” the actor-turned-director wrote. “Wearing them now. That’s right, tweeting in sweatpants.”
He then humorously warned people from joking about North Korea and sweatpants. "Real hot button topics," Gosling warned.
On Thursday, Mendes, 41, came under fire for saying that women needed to avoid the very comfortable, ultra-casual garment around the house if they wanted their significant other to stay interested.
“You can’t do sweatpants. … No, ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants, no!” the “Place Beyond the Pines” star told “Extra.”
The actress then posted a picture of what she claimed were her “favorite” sweatpants and jokily added, “Everyone knows that orange crocs are the #1 cause of divorce. Either way it was a bad joke and feel terrible if you or anyone thought I was serious. Thanks for understanding sweatpants. Sorry orange crocs.”
The couple have been together since 2011 and last September welcomed their first child, Esmeralda Anna.
