Padma Lakshmi didn’t initially know the father of her daughter because she was dating two men when she became pregnant.
According to People, in her new memoir “Love, Loss and What We Ate,” Lakshmi, 45, writes she didn’t know if billionaire IMG CEO Teddy Forstmann or Adam Dell, the brother of Dell Computer founder Michael Dell, was the dad.
Lakshmi suffered from severe endometriosis so she didn't think she could get pregnant in the first place. She also said she told each of them she was dating other men, and although she had broken up with Dell and was dating Forstmann, she and Dell had rekindled their romance briefly, hence the paternity uncertainty.
When she told Forstmann the child might not be his, she writes: "I saw his face go white, then beet red. It was as if the room could not contain him, or as if his body could not contain his fury at the information he had just received."
After the paternity test proved Dell was the father, however, Lakshmi said Forstmann changed his tune and stood by her.
“Maybe he didn't know if he could stay in a romantic relationship with me or not,” she writes. “I think neither of us knew what was going to happen but he was resolute in making sure I wasn't alone. He held my hand and he held it very publicly."
