She's going to have to get a new sash.
Miss USA Nia Sanchez is soon going to be Mrs. USA after getting engaged to longtime boyfriend, actor Daniel Booko.
“We are engaged!!! So in love with my fiancé @danielbooko,” Sanchez, 24, revealed on Instagram.
Booko also posted a sweet photo of the two: “We’re engaged!! Ahhhh! Can’t wait to spend forever with my love and best friend @realniasanchez @missusa!! #bestnightever #TheBookos.”
According to several reports, the proposal took place Saturday on a terrace in New York City, where Sanchez is living during her reign as Miss USA. The actor, 30, rented out the Suite Royale at the NoMad Hotel and decorated the 700-square-foot terrace with flowers and candles before popping the question.
“She’s thinking she’s going to an event with friends," Booko told Rumor Fix before the proposal. "I will be there looking all dapper [and the room will be] decorated with candles and flowers and the whole thing." He went on, "Just her and I to have an intimate moment – then get down on one knee and propose, then pop champagne and celebrate.”
The proposal went off as planned.
Alicia Blanco, Miss USA 2009’s second runner-up shared a photo of Booko on one knee.
“Yes, it's true! @danielbooko put a ring on @realniasanchez! @missusa is engaged! He did gooooood!” she captioned on Instagram. “More pics to follow. All I can say is that it was PERFECT! Such a fairytale to witness it.”
The ring is a two-carat diamond with a double halo in platinum that Booko helped design with Peter Young at INTA Gems and Diamonds – the same company that makes the crowns for Miss California.
“We put red, white and blue inside to add to the story of Miss USA,” Booko told Rumor Fix.
The couple met a year and a half ago at an engagement party – well before she was Miss USA. Reportedly they didn't begin dating until three months afterward, when Booko saw Sanchez at church.
This will be the first marriage for both.
Sanchez is set to represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant on Jan. 25, 2015, in Miami.
