“Married.. With Children.” The name itself sounds like a death knell, which in Al Bundy’s case, it is! The idea of the wholesome “All-American Family” is turned upside down in this knee-slapping sitcom that kept audiences coming back for eleven seasons from 1987 to 1997. Al Bundy, his wife Peggy and their two kids, Kelly and Bud set the scene for a dysfunctional family with teasing and sarcastic zingers. Our friends at Snakkle.com took a look back on some of the cast’s memorable characters to see where they are now - 25 years later.

Ed O'Neill as Al Bundy
THEN: “A fat woman came into the shoe store...” Ed O’Neil’s famous line as Al Bundy in “Married... With Children” is just one of his long list of dislikes. Al doesn’t like women who bother him, but he can’t seem to get away from them! As a shoe salesman, husband to Peggy Bundy and father of two children, Al is a hilariously disgruntled guy who loves his time on the toilet and harking back to old times when he was a star high school football player.

NOW: Funnily enough, O’Neill’s character on “Married... With Children” wasn’t a far cry from himself: he too was a star football player in high school. The meaning of “Married... With Children” runs even deeper for O’Neill because it also connected him with his wife, actress Catherine Rusoff, who starred in two episodes of the show. His role as disgruntled father prepped him as well for his more recent role as Jay Pritchett on today’s “Modern Family,” which he’s won two Screen Actor’s Guild Awards for.

Katey Sagal as Margaret “Peggy” Bundy
THEN: Peggy is everything but the ideal housewife. She’s lazy, she doesn’t cook for the family, she likes to shop but won’t wash the clothes, watches TV all day and isn’t looking for a job. One thing she isn’t lacking though is a strong libido... But just her luck, Al’s not a very attentive husband. This couple is a treat!

More On This...

NOW: After playing Peggy Bundy, Sagal lent her voice to the cartoon show “Futurama.” She also appeared in shows like “That ‘70s Show” and “Lost” and currently plays Gemma Teller Marrow on “Sons of Anarchy,” written and produced by her husband Kurt Sutter. Take that, Al Bundy!

Christina Applegate as Kelly Bundy
THEN: Christina Applegate played Kelly Bundy, the eldest daughter of the family, who is never without a boyfriend. She is so dull that her brother Bud often plays tricks on her to the audience’s benefit. Kelly’s frequent grammar mistakes make for an abundance of “Kellyisms,” which only a gifted comedic actress like Applegate could deliver.

NOW: Applegate had one of the most successful careers after “Married... With Children.” She has starred in many films including “The Sweetest Thing,” “Anchorman,” and “Hall Pass.” Applegate still makes people laugh on the sitcom “Up All Night” with co-stars Maya Rudolph and Will Arnett. In 2008, Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery for a double mastectomy and is now cancer free, having made a full recovery. She is an avid spokeswoman for cancer awareness, education and research.

David Faustino as Budrick “Bud” Bundy
THEN: Not all the Bundys are a lost case! Bud, played by David Faustino, is the Bundy’s younger child and son, a straight-A student. Smart cookie Bud attends Trumaine University after graduating high school, but his obsession with sex, or more specifically the lack thereof, makes him the butt of many family jokes.

NOW: Los Angeles-native David Faustino made a succession of guest appearances on TV shows following his role as Bud on “Married... With Children.” However, Faustino’s career took a turn for the better when he started landing voice acting roles around 2004. He can be heard most recently on the Nickelodeon TV show “The Legend of Korra” as the character Mako.
