Fresh off the smash Bridesmaids, Kristen Wiig is ready to plunge into what she refers to as her "passion project": a film titled Imogene. The dark comedy has been green-lit, according to Variety.

Wiig — who again received an Emmy nomination Thursday for her work on Saturday Night Live — will play the movie's title role, a playwright who fakes a suicide attempt to woo her ex-boyfriend. The plan backfires and she finds herself in the custody of her mother, who's addicted to gambling.

Michelle Morgan (Middle of Nowhere) wrote the script and the team of Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (who previously collaborated on the likes of American Splendor and HBO's Cinema Verite) will direct Imogene.

Imogene is set to start filming Aug. 8 in New York.
