John Mulaney has been speaking publicly about his breakup from his ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler — in a standup special and on Seth Meyers — and now Tendler is exhibiting new artwork in Los Angeles.
Her show, "Rooms in the First House," seems to reveal her state of mind after their split.
Mulaney, 39, recently announced that he and new girlfriend Olivia Munn, 41, are expecting a baby. He also seemingly attempted to clear up the timeline of his new relationship last week, saying on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," "I went to rehab in September, I got out in October, I moved out of my home from my ex-wife. Then in the spring I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia… And we’re having a baby together."
Multidisciplinary artist Tendler will be showing off photographs from her "Rooms in the First House" series at the Other Art Fair in Santa Monica, Calif., Sept. 23-26.
JOHN MULANEY OFFICIALLY FILES FOR DIVORCE FROM ANNA MARIE TENDLER
The series is described on her web site as "a portrait project exploring the multitudinous versions of self confined within one body." The portraits include the artist in all the images.
A bio for Tendler provided by the fair states, "She works out of her home in Connecticut," and says that it’s "her largest artistic endeavor to date."
One haunting image, titled "Dinner in March," shows Tendler dressed in a white gown looking longingly across a candlelit table at an empty chair, with food placed on the table untouched. Another image shows her sitting alone on the edge of a bed gazing into the distance.
Not all images from the series will be on sale at the fair. Tendler has been posting additional images on Instagram and her site. "A Room That Once Was" shows her curled on the floor, with her head on a chair in an otherwise empty room. While another portrait shows her upside down on the stairs looking at her phone, with an Instagram caption that reads: "God, It’s Brutal Out Here." Yet another image shows her standing in her underwear in a darkened room, with her head in her hands.
JOHN MULANEY CONFIRMS OLIVIA MUNN IS PREGNANT, COUPLE IS EXPECTING FIRST CHILD TOGETHER
Tendler was thrust into the spotlight in May when it was announced her marriage with Mulaney was ending after six years, after his stint in rehab. "I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage," she said in a statement at the time. "I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery."
Sources told Page Six that the standup comic and writer had asked for a divorce in May. We reported that Tendler also went to rehab around the same time as Mulaney late last year, but for emotional reasons, sources said, adding that she suffered because of his alleged infidelity.
