Jen Aniston: Women Don't Need to Settle Just to Have a Child

As the subject of intense press scrutiny about her personal life, actress Jennifer Aniston is speaking out about her thoughts on motherhood.

When talking about her new film “The Switch,” about a woman who decides to get pregnant with a sperm donor, Aniston defended women who make the decision to have a baby when they are ready, regardless of their relationship status.

“Women are realizing it more and more knowing that they don’t have to settle with a  man just to have that child,” Aniston said at a press conference Sunday. “Times have changed and that is also what is amazing is that we do have so many options these days, as opposed to our parents’ days when you can’t have children because you waited too long.”

Aniston added that she does not feel that there are any restrictions on what type of family can raise a healthy child.

“The point of the movie is what is it that defines family? It isn’t necessarily the traditional mother, father, two children and a dog named Spot,” she said. “Love is love and family is what is around you and who is in your immediate sphere. That is what I love about this movie. It is saying it is not the traditional sort of stereotype of what we have been taught as a society of what family is.”

The actress added that she still wants to be a mom, but said she won’t be going the route of her character, who uses a turkey baster. But the U.K. Daily Mail quoted the actress as saying of parenthood that she is “on the verge of it in some way … it’s something I long for.”
