Authorities say country music singer-songwriter David Allan Coe has been ordered to pay the IRS more than $980,000 in restitution for obstructing the tax agency.

Federal prosecutors say Coe also was sentenced Monday in federal court in Cincinnati to three years' probation.

The 76-year-old writer of the song "Take This Job and Shove It" pleaded guilty last year to impeding and obstructing administration of IRS laws.

Court documents say Coe earned income from at least 100 concerts yearly from 2008 through 2013 and either didn't file individual income tax returns or pay taxes when he did file.

Prosecutors say he also owed for prior years and spent the money on other debts and gambling.

Coe attorney Michael Stengel says the judge noted Coe already has been repaying the IRS.
