Super “Smooth” singer Carlos Santana got a great surprise just before Christmas when, thanks to a news station, he was reunited with his former band member, who is currently homeless.
Marcus Malone was discovered by a KRON 4 news team when he was rooting through trash at a Dumpster in the Oakland, Calif. area. He spoke with the station’s Stanley Roberts and revealed that at one point his life was much more glamorous.
“At one time I was with the Santana band, the original Santana blues band," Malone told KRON 4. "Now I'm homeless and on the streets."
After he went to prison in 1969, Malone lost contact with the guitar legend, but thanks to KRON 4, the two were reunited after the segment aired—and cameras captured the emotional moment.
Santana told the station he has previously tried to track down his former band mate, but he could never locate Malone. The station got the two of them back together.
Upon seeing Malone, Santana rushed to embrace him.
"That's him man. That's magnificent Marcus Malone. His spirit is indomitable."
KRON 4 reports that Santana wants to get Malone off of the streets and into the recording studio with him once again.
