Amanda Bynes shocked some with her recent vulgar and sexual tweet about rapper Drake. But for those who have been following the former child star over the last several years, her strange and scary behavior comes as no surprise. Here are some of the wackiest things the former “All That” star has done in recent years:
Bynes retires--for about a month
Back in June 2010, Amanda abruptly announced she was retiring from acting. “I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I’ve #retired,” she wrote on Twitter. “I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it … If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it … Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem.”
But just one month later the “Hairspray” star took to Twitter again to, well, change her mind. “I’ve unretired,” she said simply in July of 2010.
Drooling for Drake
Bynes’ recent tweets about rapper Drake may seem random, but the rumors of a romance between the two began way back in Feb. 2010. Still, she denied even then that they were romantically linked, writing "FYI I've never met Drake! We have a mutual friend but we haven't met yet! So for some reason people think we're dating but we're not!"
A quiet 2011
After a series of overly open tweets, Bynes signed off the social media site for a while in 2011. She did, however, turn up at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, looking fabulous.
Legal drama
Perhaps Bynes’ scariest behavior has taken place when the actress is behind the wheel. On April 6, 2012, the actress was arrested and charged with a DUI after she swiped a police cruiser with her black BMW is Hollywood, Calif. Then, in Sept. 2012, the actress was charged with a hit-and-run for allegedly leaving the scene of two other accidents she reportedly caused. Later that month, the actress’ drivers license was suspended and her vehicle was reportedly impounded.
Amanda asks for help…from the President
In June 2012, Bynes called on President Barack Obama to give her a helping hand. In a strange message, the actress wrote: "Hey @BarackObama... I don't drink. Please fire the cop who arrested me. I also don't hit and run. The end." Fortunately, her legal team came to her aid and she was able to reach settlements in the hit-and-run cases.
Bynes moves to NYC and retires…again
So, what’s a girl to do when she can no longer drive in California? Move to Manhattan, of course. Bynes told People magazine in late Sept. of 2012 that she had relocated to the Big Apple and was “doing amazing.” Oh, and she once again declared she was retired. "I am retired as an actor. I am moving to New York to launch my career. I am going to do a fashion line," she told the mag.
Who needs a publicist anyway?
In Sept. 2012, the rumor mill churned with reports Bynes ousted her entire management team, including her lawyer and reps. Maybe she no longer had a use for them since she “retired.”
Work out woes
That same month, Bynes was reportedly kicked out of a work out class at a gym for odd behavior, which included taking off her shirt and doing her makeup in front of a mirror during the class. The instructor who booted her later tweeted he was “wishing her a healthy recovery [from] what she is going [through]."
Clubbing alone
Though Bynes declared she does not drink, she apparently still likes to enjoy a night out. In Dec. 2012, she was spotted hitting the NYC club scene all by herself. A source told E! the star was “zoned out” and “stumbling” while dancing at about 1 a.m.
Is that you, Amanda?
In 2013, Bynes seemingly set out to prove she was all grown up with a series of shocking and raunchy photos she posted on Instagram and Twitter. In February, the actress debuted shining piercings in both of her cheeks. In other photos, the actress was almost unrecognizable with bleach blond hair, sharp fake nails and barely-there clothes. On Instagram, she posted photos of her cleavage and close-ups of her ripped jeans and butt.
Drake (and tofu) obsessed?
Last week, Bynes appalled many when she took her tweets about rapper Drake to a new level, writing: “I want Drake to murder my vagina.” The actress’ tweet about the singer wasn’t her first attention-grabbing message of the week. She also mused online about baby corn, tofu and socks.
