Report: NBC concerned with Jimmy Fallon’s drinking
Four4Four: Sources say Jimmy Fallon drinks too much. Should NBC execs be worried?
Rumors have been swirling that funnyman Jimmy Fallon is drinking and partying too much after a series of bizarre incidents involving the star, but the network insists it is standing behind its late-night host.
An insider claimed to Page Six that the network was concerned about "The Tonight Show's" star's drinking after some highly-publicized injuries. Fallon memorably severed his ring finger in June 2015 and chipped a tooth shortly after that. He was also spotted partying in New York City until the wee hours last month.
“There were fears that Fallon was out of control and something could happen while he’s out drinking. Things got so serious at one stage that execs feared that Jimmy was splitting up with his wife over his drinking, but they patched things up,” the source claimed.
Another source said of Fallon, “He is a heavy drinker. He sees himself as somebody who needs image rehabilitation.”
But Chairman of NBC Entertainment Bob Greenblatt said the network isn’t worried about their star.
“Jimmy is one of NBC’s biggest assets, and we’re extremely proud that ‘The Tonight Show’ continues to be the late-night leader in all metrics, including ratings and social-media awareness. He’s in a class by himself, and we’re also looking forward to him hosting the Golden Globes in January. As a producer and star he delivers over 200 hours of television a year, and any suggestion that we have concerns about his behavior or have given him any kind of ‘warning’ is completely false.”
