Dua Lipa’s music is a bit of pop, mixed with some R&B with a little bit of disco. Her hits like "New Rules" and Levitating" have been heard around the world. Lipa's parents, Anesa and Dukagjin were from Kosovo and moved to London before she was born on August 22nd, 1995. She moved with her family back to Kosovo when she was 11 years old but moved in with a family friend in London when she was just 15 to pursue a career in music.
Dua, which is the singer's real name, meaning love in Albanian, started off her singing career the way a lot of young, aspiring artists do and started posting covers on YouTube. In 2015, she got a record deal with Warner Music Group and her first single "New Love," went out to the world. In 2017, her self-titled album was released, containing her hit song "New Rules." The music video for this smash hit has been viewed more than 2 billion times on YouTube. Some other big hits from that album are" Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" and "IDGAF."
Dua Lipa has performed liveduring awards shows and has gone around the world singing her hit songs, but when she first started live performing, the singer got negative feedback about her dancing skills and stage presence.
"Future Nostalgia" is the singer’s second album which came out in 2020. That album contains songs like "Don’t Start Now," "Physical," and Levitating." This album got the Grammy Award for "Best Pop Vocal Album" in 2020. More recently Dua has had some controversy surrounding the song "Levitating" since two different groups have made copyright claims against the song.
Lipa’s sister, Rina Lipa, is also making her mark in the industry. She has a large Instagram following where she often expresses love for her older sister. She is currently a model and walked the runway in 2021 during Milan Fashion week. She also has a younger brother, Gjin and has been linked to Anwar Hadid, brother of Gigi and Bella Hadid.
