UK school bans bracelets paying tribute to student who died of cancer

Students at a UK school are outraged after being told they can't wear wristbands that pay tribute to their classmate who died of cancer.

Friends of Jordan Cobby, 14, reportedly created the bracelets to raise money for charity after Cobby lost his battle with eye cancer in March last year.

Nuneaton Academy, in Warwickshire, England, reportedly banned the bracelets because they are not part of the school uniform.

The blue bracelets, inscribed with "Jordan Cobby, R.I.Paradise, Forever 14," sold for £1 a piece, with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

One student was reportedly sent home for refusing to take off his bracelet.

"My son had played football with Jordan since they were 7," said Zoe Ashby, mother of Harris Ashby. "I am proud of Harris for refusing to take the wristband off."

Around 400 parents reportedly have signed a petition asking the school to let students wear the bracelets. The school is reportedly discussing an "alternative symbol" to honor Cobby that stays in line with the uniform policy.
