TUNIS, Tunisia – Tunisian police have seized three foreign activists were disrobing in front of the Ministry of Justice, displaying "Free Amina" slogans on their stomachs, to protest against the jailing of a Tunisian member of the Ukrainian feminist group FEMEN.
The three were hustled to a police station as some 200 people gathered to protest the women's actions.
The demonstrators were accompanied by a few representatives of Tunisian civil society, who were harshly criticized by the protesters, many of whom appeared to be conservative Muslims by their attire.
Tunisian woman Amina Tyler scandalized society by posting topless pictures of herself online in March in a FEMEN-inspired protest.
She was arrested May 19 for attempting to protest during a thwarted gathering of ultraconservative Muslims in the city of Kairouan and is in prison.
