Puerto Rico police seize $11.5 million worth of cocaine in raid on tourist island of Vieques

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Authorities in Puerto Rico say they have seized 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds) of cocaine worth an estimated $11.5 million.

Police Superintendent Jose Caldero says the drug was seized near the small neighboring island of Vieques that is popular with tourists.

He said Tuesday that police arrested eight people and seized three cars and nearly $1,500 in cash after receiving an anonymous tip.

Caldero said it is one of the largest drug seizures this year.
