NEW DELHI – Indian police say the bodies of four women have been found inside an Indian guru's ashram.
The discovery Wednesday comes a day after thousands of devotees fought off security forces who were trying to raid the complex in Haryana state and arrest spiritual leader Sant Rampal.
Rampal is wanted for questioning in a 2006 murder case.
By Wednesday afternoon, police still had not managed to enter the ashram. But Shriniwas Vashisht, the Haryana police director-general, says the bodies of four women were handed over to authorities. It was not clear how the women died.
Nearly 200 people were injured in Tuesday's melee.
Vashisht says thousands of people have been pouring out of the ashram on Wednesday. Many apparently were held against their will.
