PARIS – Paris public hospitals' director says he is filing a police complaint after some protesters tried to force entry into a post-surgery ward as a May Day march passed near the building.
Martin Hirsch says dozens of people scaled the fence of the Pitie Salpetriere hospital courtyard Wednesday and tried to storm in through an emergency exit door. Doctors and nurses maintained the door closed for several minutes before police arrived.
Hirsch said Thursday "the consequences could have been very serious." Some computer equipment in another room has been damaged.
Paris' May Day rally was disrupted by violence from some anti-government yellow vest protesters, anarchists and far-left groups.
During a 2016 demonstration against labor reforms, another Paris hospital sustained damage after troublemakers hurled paving stones and other objects at the building.
