A senior Kosovo official says Sami Osmakac, the man accused by U.S. authorities of plotting to bomb Florida nightclubs and a sheriff's office, met with radical Islamists during visits to his native Kosovo.

The official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the issue's sensitivity, said Wednesday that Osmakac "used his visits to Kosovo to meet with radical Islamic individuals."

The official says Kosovo authorities were alerted by international agencies that Osmakac could be linked to Islamist extremists.

U.S. federal authorities say Osmakac planned to use a car bomb, assault rifle and other explosives in an Islamist-inspired attack.
