Israeli authorities have arrested an Arab citizen of Israel suspected of spying for Hezbollah by gathering information on President Shimon Peres' security arrangements to give to the Lebanese militant group.

According to an indictment issued Thursday, the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency says the man shadowed a visit by Peres to an Arab town in August. Authorities say he intended to pass the information to Hezbollah, but was arrested before he could do so.

The Shin Bet says the man also collected information on Israeli military facilities.

The indictment says the man was recruited in 2009 by a Hezbollah operative.

A lawyer for the man could not be immediately contacted.

Since a month-long war with Hezbollah in 2006, Israel has arrested several Arab citizens on suspicion of aiding the group.
