A New Jersey woman has been convicted of aggravated assault for throwing hot cooking oil on her husband and chasing him with a hand ax around their home.

A Somerset County jury on Thursday found Mauvette Mattadeen guilty of aggravated assault for attacking her 53-year-old husband in April 2012 at their Franklin Township home after he asked for a divorce.

The Courier-News reports that the attack left her husband with burns over 23 percent of his body and without sight in one eye. He also lost hearing in one ear and suffered permanent scarring.

The jury did not convict her on the more serious charge of attempted murder.
