RIVERTON, Wyo. – A partial human skull found in the Wind River Range in August could be that of a Lander hiker who went missing five years ago.
Fremont County coroner Ed McAuslan told the Riverton Ranger that a review by a University of Wyoming expert suggests the skull belonged to a man between 40 and 55 years old. The hiker, Clay Rubano, was 46 when he disappeared.
The skull was found about a mile from where other bones identified at Rubano's were found in 2008. Rubano's belongings were also found then and the evidence suggested that he may have fallen and suffered hypothermia.
McAuslan is sending the skull to a lab in Salt Lake City for a DNA comparison with the bones.
