PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – The boat belonging to two missing teenage fishermen is back in Florida, 10 months after the boys departed on their tragic voyage.
A Norwegian cargo ship containing the boat that carried Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos arrived at Port Everglades near Fort Lauderdale on Sunday and will be unloaded Monday evening. The overturned 19-foot boat was spotted and recovered by a Norwegian ship in March off Bermuda, where it had been carried by currents.
The 14-year-old friends disappeared last July when their boat capsized during a storm off the coast of Jupiter, Florida. Along with the boat, fishing gear that was found onboard will also be returned. Austin's cellphone was also recovered. It was sent ahead in hopes of recovering data, but those efforts failed.
