Pittsburgh students shot video while girl changed in locker room, mom says

Police are investigating claims of a 12-year-old girl getting videotaped while she was changing in her school's locker room.

The student has not returned to school for classes for almost two weeks since she found out about the recording, her mom, Cory Synan, told Fox News.

Synan said her daughter had just finished gym class at the Barack Obama Academy of International Studies in Pittsburgh and was changing out of her bathing suit when she saw a phone over her stall.

It wasn’t until the next day, March 21, that the 12-year-old found out that the camera had been recording, and that the video had been shared on social media, Synan said.

"She called me the next day crying,” Synan said. “They were making fun of her.” The mom said her daughter was told by a friend the video had been on Snapchat.

Fox News reached out to the Barack Obama Academy of International Studies and got a call back from Pittsburgh Public Schools Public Information Officer Ebony Pugh who said an investigation was made when the complaint first came out.

“At that time, there was no mention of Snapchat," Pugh said.

Pugh added that the school was looking through Facebook for the alleged video based on the initial report, but did not find anything.

Although the video wasn’t found from the school’s initial investigation, Synan says the school should have reason to believe the incident took place, and should not be referencing the video as just an allegation.

"When I see my daughter crying every night, that's not alleged,” she said.

Synan says the school wasn’t doing enough to protect her daughter.

“They tried to downplay it,” Synan said.  “That wasn't good enough for me.”
