A Pennsylvania man desperate for some paid time off work placed an obituary in his local newspaper for his mother.

Only problem was, his mother turned up at the Brookville, Pa., newspaper office after the obituary was published to explain that she was in fact alive and well, Time magazine reported.

Scott Bennett, 45, filed the notice in The Jeffersonian Democrat as part of an elaborate ploy to get paid bereavement leave from his employer, police said.

The newspaper's editor said he had no reason to doubt the authenticity of the notice and it was only when relatives of the woman began phoning in that the alarm was raised.

He said the woman was very understanding.

Bennett was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. It is unknown what punishment his mother will dole out.
