PHILADELPHIA – A man left paralyzed from the shoulders down after his relatives tipped over a portable toilet has settled a Pennsylvania lawsuit for $5 million.
The Legal Intelligencer reports Wednesday that Donald Adams III was on a camping trip with two relatives when they backed a truck up to the toilet to try to lock him inside as a prank.
The lawsuit says the cousins-in-law inadvertently knocked the toilet over when they banged on it and shook it.
A trial memo says Adams landed on his neck and the accident left him a quadriplegic.
Adams and his wife sued the relatives along with the toilet manufacturer and installer, alleging the toilet was improperly installed on a slope.
Those defendants blame the cousins for the injuries.
