CLEVELAND – A medical examiner says a high school football player from suburban Cleveland who was hit in the abdomen during a game died two days later of a problem caused by a lacerated small intestine.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office says 17-year-old Andre Jackson died of peritonitis Sunday at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland.
A Euclid School District spokeswoman says the junior was involved in a collision during a punt play Friday in a game against Solon and walked to the team's sideline afterward.
She says an ambulance took Jackson to a medical center in Beachwood, and he was discharged the next day.
Both hospitals are in the University Hospitals system, and a spokeswoman says there will be a full review of the care Jackson received.
