Police say a northern Kentucky officer has fatally shot a man involved in a domestic dispute and a woman injured in the altercation has died.

Kentucky State Police say officers from Elsmere and Erlanger city police responded to a domestic violence call Thursday night and found 42-year-old Gustavo Ponce-Galon inside his home with a knife.

Police say Galon refused to comply with commands from an officer inside the home to drop the knife and charged the officer, at which point he was fatally shot.

Police said 34-year-old Maribel Angeles Garcia was pronounced dead at a hospital from injuries she sustained in the domestic dispute.

State police are handling the investigation, which is routine for officer-involved shootings.
