MINEOLA, N.Y. – A well-connected suburban New York businessman wounded in a shooting outside his high-end catering hall has released a video thanking friends and relatives for their support.
Gary Melius (MEEL'-ee-uhs) didn't make any comments about the Feb. 24 shooting during a 7-minute video issued through a spokesman. He's seen wearing a patch over his left eye and a bandage on his head.
Melius was shot in the parking lot of Oheka (oh-HEE'-kah) Castle in Huntington, on Long Island. Melius owns the landmark catering facility and lives there. He's donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to political candidates and is known for his charitable works.
Police have released few details about the shooting. They say the assailant was wearing a mask.
A police spokeswoman said Monday she had no updates on the investigation.
