Skeletal remains found in a Minnesota state park have sparked a murder investigation into the death of a Minneapolis woman who went missing almost 30 years ago.
Through DNA analysis, remains found last year in Gooseberry State Park have been identified as Cassandra Rhines, who went missing in June 1985 at age 19, Fox21Online.com reported Wednesday.
Rhines was last heard from when she called a friend to confirm attendance at her goddaughter's birthday party the next day, investigators said. She was likely murdered close to the time that she disappeared.
Investigators are looking to identify a man Rhines was reportedly living with at the time. They also believe she may have been involved in prostitution and also may have worked as an exotic dancer.
“Investigators need the public’s help to better understand who Cassandra Rhines knew and who may have sought to harm her,” Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Assistant Superintendent Drew Evans told Fox21Online.
