LAS VEGAS – Prosecutors have filed a broad criminal murder charge against a 25-year-old one-time mixed martial arts fighter in the slaying of a former UNLV football player in a scuffle at a Las Vegas party.
A complaint filed Tuesday accuses Jason Sindelar of open murder in the June 19 death of 26-year-old DeMario Reynolds Sr.
The charge gives a jury several options at trial, including manslaughter.
A judge gave Sindelar until Friday to post $50,000 bail pending trial.
Witnesses say Reynolds intervened in a 4 a.m. altercation between Sindelar and Sindelar's girlfriend in a room at the Luxor hotel-casino.
The Clark County coroner ruled that Reynolds died of cocaine, Ecstasy and alcohol intoxication, with injuries received in the fight a contributing factor.
