LYNN, Mass. -- A Marblehead grandmother who crashed her car into a tree while driving her 9-year-old grandson to school has been sentenced to a year in jail on drunken driving and child endangerment charges.

Sharon Faulkner was sentenced Tuesday in Lynn District Court to 2 1/2 years behind bars for operating under the influence of alcohol, with all but six months suspended.

She was also sentenced to 2 1/2 years on the child endangerment charge, with all but six months suspended, to be served after the drunken driving sentence.

Prosecutors say the 63-year-old grandmother had been drinking when her car struck a tree in Marblehead in March. Her grandson suffered a minor injury.

Her lawyer said in court that she is remorseful.
